The Idaho Old State Penitentiary is a living and growing site. At over 140 years old, it is one of the most historically rich locations in Idaho. Then and Now is an iPad app that is used as a supplement to the site tours or standalone as an enhancement to the experience for visitors. Users find photos and information about each important location in the facility and use augmented reality to see demolished buildings in a 3D view as they used to exist. Alternatively, models can be seen in a scaled down diorama for users that are not physically at the museum.

We started by wire-framing out our plan for the app in Adobe XD. This is software I have used before along side Figma to prototype app designs before moving to the full development stage.

I created this app in Xcode for iOS, specifically targeting the 9.7 inch iPads which the Old Penn has on hand. I employed the use of AR Kit to showcase our 3D models in augmented reality, and developed novel solutions to problems. I created a tutorial for one of these problems and hosted it here.
