This game served as my senior project for my Games Interactive Media and Mobile BS at Boise State University's College of Innovation and Design. This is a Google Cardboard game I developed in Unity. Players take control of a worker at an abstract 'censorship factory' wherein they are subjected to grueling hours sorting and censoring all communications within this Orwellian society.
For this game I drew heavy inspiration from other dystopian stories like those from Lucas Pope or George Orwell. Papers Please was one of my largest influences and it shows, even my trailer borrows Papers Please' very own theme song.
When I first began development I was working with the Oculus Rift but quickly pivoted to Google Cardboard as I found the simplicity of the platform and low barrier of entry only served my game. Room 101 requires just the basic Cardboard headset with a single button. The player is stuck in their spot on an assembly line where they must sort the letters. In front of them they see simple displays tracking their progress and a projector screen that plays vintage propaganda films from the USSR.

On my 15th birthday my uncle gave me a hardback book containing both Animal Farm and 1984, Orwell's ideas of how censorship and language could control our culture and even our own thoughts would change the way I viewed the world forever. Room 101 was developed entirely by myself.
